LMS Photo Day is coming! 📸😎👍

Photo Day is Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

On that day, all students will report to the gym during their regularly scheduled Physical Education/Tech/Health or Specials class to take their individual portrait photos.

If your child is absent on October 14th, or if you would like them to retake their portrait, a Photo Retake Day is scheduled for Tuesday, December 2nd.

Fall Spirit Week

LMS Fall Spirit Week - October 27th-31st

This year, Halloween falls on a Friday, and the LMS Student Council has included costumes as part of our annual Fall Spirit Week, scheduled for Monday, October 27 through Friday, October 31.

Although this is an instructional week and we do not host classroom Halloween parties, we are happy to provide students with the opportunity to enjoy the festive nature of the season. Participation in Spirit Week is optional — students may choose to join in on all or some of the daily themes. These Student Council–sponsored activities are a great way for students to demonstrate school spirit and unity.

LMS Fall Spirit Week Themes:
  • Monday, October 27: Pajama Day – Wear your PJs or comfy clothes.
  • Tuesday, October 28: Teachers/Students Switch – Students dress like teachers, and teachers dress like students.
  • Wednesday, October 29: Fall Colors – Show off the colors of the season.
  • Thursday, October 30: Team Day – Represent your favorite sports team.
  • Friday, October 31: Halloween – Wear your Halloween costume to school.

Mrs. Slane's students work together to build a model of "McKenna" based on their understanding of her illness symptoms. Students must also consider what McKenna is eating and drinking when building their models.

The Environmental Club visited the Hudson River Field Station.

Environmental Club Field Trip
Students took part in seining, a hands-on method of collecting aquatic life. Using large nets called seines, they dragged the nets through the shallow water to catch fish and other small organisms. Once collected, the students used a dichotomous key, a tool for identifying species, to classify the fish they caught.
Environmental Club Trip
The Environmental Club, under the supervision of Christine Alia and Stephanie Rivera, visited the Hudson River Field Station. The students collected water samples and filtered them to examine the presence of microplastics. They also inspected their own clothes for microplastic fibers, noting that clothing is one of the leading sources of microplastics in the environment.

Week or Respect

This week, LMS proudly celebrated New Jersey’s Week of Respect, a statewide initiative focused on building safe, inclusive, and kind school communities. Each day, we focused on a different theme—belonging, respect, kindness, conflict resolution, and accountability—and shared daily messages with families that included conversation starters and positive behaviors to look for at home. These short reflections helped strengthen the bridge between school and home, reinforcing the values we want students to live every day.

On Wednesday, we held a building-wide Advisory focused on Community. Students designed individual puzzle pieces that reflected who they are—interests, values, and qualities—and learned how their unique traits help shape the larger LMS culture. When combined, these pieces will become a powerful visual reminder that everyone belongs and has a place in our school community.

Thank you to our staff for making this week meaningful, and to our families for helping us extend the conversation beyond the classroom. The Week of Respect may be over, but the lessons live on.
