Our 6th graders recently participated in an engaging and hands-on field trip to the New Jersey School of Conservation at Stokes State Forest, where they explored Water Ecology and took part in an Interpretive Hike. During the Water Ecology session, students examined the idea that water is a vital human resource connected to all life and to their own home community. Working at the Big Flatbrook, students measured stream flow to estimate how much water moves through a natural system and studied aquatic organisms to assess water quality. Using data they collected firsthand, students evaluated whether a stream like the Flatbrook could realistically supply water to a school community.
The experience also included a student-led Interpretive Hike through Stokes State Forest, where learning unfolded naturally along the trail. Guided by curiosity and observation, discussions covered topics such as plant and animal interactions, nutrient recycling, soil building, forest regeneration, invasive species, and wildlife habitats.
This immersive day at the New Jersey School of Conservation encouraged critical thinking, collaboration, and a deeper appreciation for the environment, making it a memorable learning experience for our 6th graders.

LMS students participated in the Kindness Starts With Me Assembly, an engaging and interactive presentation focused on self-worth, empathy, and the power of kindness. Through age-appropriate assemblies, students learned that each individual is a unique gift and explored practical ways to stand up for themselves and others.
For our 7th and 8th grade students, the presentation emphasized avoiding unhealthy comparisons—particularly on social media—and the importance of choosing to be an upstander rather than a bystander. Students also discussed how words can hurt or heal and were introduced to simple, effective strategies to use when feeling overwhelmed.
This assembly reinforced our ongoing commitment to fostering kindness, confidence, and a positive, supportive school community.

Our middle school students have been having a blast in PE class playing the classic playground favorite—Four Square! Under the guidance of their PE teachers, this fast-paced game is much more than just fun. Four Square helps students build important skills like hand-eye coordination, agility, and spatial awareness, while also reinforcing teamwork, communication, and good sportsmanship. As students rotate through the squares, they practice following rules, resolving conflicts respectfully, and adapting their strategies in real time. It’s a great example of how PE classes combine physical activity with social-emotional learning, keeping students active, engaged, and learning together—one bounce at a time!

Learning truly took off in Mr. Sassi’s and Mrs. Alia’s 7th Grade Science Literacy classes! As part of an exciting engineering design challenge, students designed, built, and launched their very own model rockets—bringing science concepts to life in the most spectacular way.
Through this hands-on experience, students explored energy conversions in action, observing how chemical energy stored in rocket engines transformed into kinetic and potential energy during flight. Rather than simply reading about these concepts, our Lions experienced them soaring high above the launch field!
Teamwork and creativity were on full display throughout the project. Students collaborated to construct their rockets, problem-solved together, and added unique personal touches to make each design one-of-a-kind. The result? A sky full of innovation, excitement, and proud smiles.
Launch Day served as a thrilling capstone to the marking period—a powerful reminder that at LMS, learning doesn’t just stay in the classroom… it launches students to new heights! 🚀✨

The International Club is soaring to new heights this year! Led by the incredible team of Mrs. Nainani, Mrs. Garcia, and Mrs. De Armas, the club continues to grow as a welcoming, energetic space where students celebrate and explore the rich diversity of our world.
Guided by this year’s exciting theme, “Around the World in a School Year,” each meeting takes students on a new global adventure. Through hands-on cultural activities, interactive research, storytelling, and thoughtful discussions, students discover traditions, languages, foods, celebrations, and perspectives from across the globe. Every session is an opportunity to build curiosity, empathy, and appreciation for cultures beyond our own.
Building on last year’s incredible success — including a memorable and meaningful field trip to the United Nations — the club is already planning to make this year just as impactful (and yes, we hope to return to the UN!).
The International Club’s mission remains clear: to help students develop global awareness, deepen cultural understanding, and foster a true sense of belonging in our increasingly interconnected world. We are so proud of the way our students are embracing the opportunity to think globally while connecting right here at school! 🌎💙

To prepare for these monthly matchups, students attend practice twice a week, sharpening their critical thinking skills, building academic confidence, and learning how to collaborate under pressure. The dedication and commitment of our team members truly shine through in every competition.
The excitement builds throughout the year, culminating in a county-wide tournament featuring more than 20 middle schools from across Bergen County. It’s an incredible opportunity for our students to showcase their knowledge and represent LMS with pride.
