📣 LMS Parent Update - Bias Awareness Assembly

Posted Date: 12/12/25 (04:37 PM)

Dear LMS Families,

Today, our 7th and 8th graders attended an important and meaningful educational assembly presented by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office titled:
“Bias Crimes: A Discussion About Diversity, Bullying, Bias and Hate.”

During the presentation, students learned about:
✨ What bias is and how it can appear in schools and the community
✨ What constitutes Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying (HIB)
✨ How to make safe, respectful choices and avoid involvement in bias incidents
✨ When a bias incident becomes a bias crime
✨ How the words we choose matter — and the harm hateful language can cause

We encourage you to continue this important conversation at home. Discussing what your child learned today can help reinforce empathy, responsible decision-making, and respect for others.

Looking ahead, we will be bringing similarly themed assemblies to our 5th and 6th graders in the second half of the school year, ensuring all LMS students have the opportunity to engage in these essential discussions.

We also extend our sincere thanks to the Leonia Police Department for working closely with us to help schedule and support this important assembly.

Thank you for your continued partnership in fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive school community.

With Lion Pride,
Dave Saco
Principal
