From the Den to the Stage: Musical Theater Shines at LMS! 🎭 🎶

Our stage came alive in a truly unforgettable way as we proudly presented our very first middle school musical, Once Upon a Mattress! What a spectacular debut for our performing arts program!

Under the outstanding direction of Mr. Jonah Balagtas and Mrs. Laura O'Meara, along with Musical Director Mr. Kyle Crouchelli, our talented students brought humor, energy, and heart to this whimsical retelling of The Princess and the Pea. From the lively musical numbers to the colorful characters and comedic moments, every scene showcased the incredible dedication and creativity of our cast and crew.

Our students rose to the occasion, demonstrating not only their artistic talents, but also their commitment, teamwork, and perseverance throughout the rehearsal process. Whether on stage, behind the scenes, or supporting in technical roles, each student played an important part in making this production such a success.

We are so proud of everyone involved in this milestone event. Once Upon a Mattress marks the beginning of what promises to be a vibrant and growing tradition of Musical Theater here at LMS. Bravo to our performers, directors, and all who helped make this magical experience possible! 🎭

Welcoming Our Future Cubs & Rising Lions! 🐾 LMS Hosts ACS 4th Grade and EVG 6th Grade Orientations

LMS proudly opened its doors to both our ACS 4th graders and EVG 6th graders for two exciting Orientation experiences, giving our future students a meaningful introduction to life at LMS.

Our ACS 4th graders—our future 5th grade Cubs—enjoyed a morning of learning and exploration. They were introduced to our LMS Core Values, explored the many clubs and activities available, and gained insight into daily routines and academic expectations. Students had the chance to meet all of our 5th grade teachers, as well as their future school counselor, Mr. Nyhuis. A highlight of their visit was hearing from a panel of current 5th graders, who shared their experiences and offered helpful advice. They also toured the building and got a glimpse of their future classrooms, making the transition to middle school feel both real and exciting.

We also welcomed our EVG 6th graders—our rising 7th graders—for an engaging orientation experience of their own. Our future LMS Lions learned about LMS Core Values, clubs, activities, athletic programs, and academic expectations for the year ahead. They toured the building in small groups, guided by our outstanding 8th grade student leaders, and had the opportunity to meet many of their 7th grade teachers. Additionally, students were introduced to our 7th and 8th grade school counselors, Ms. Feldman and Ms. Whalen, helping them feel supported and connected as they prepare for the next step in their journey.

Across both visits, the excitement and enthusiasm were clear. Our future Cubs and rising Lions are eager to take on new challenges, build connections, and become an integral part of the LMS community. We can’t wait to welcome them this fall!

We were also delighted to host an Orientation for new LMS families, providing an opportunity to connect, learn, and feel welcomed into our school community. Families received an overview of our Core Values, academic programs, student supports, and the many opportunities available for students to get involved. Family members met with Ms. King and Mr. Saco, asked questions, and gained a deeper understanding of what makes LMS such a special place. It was a wonderful way to begin building strong partnerships as we welcome our newest families to the LMS community.

✍️ Finishing Strong: 7th Graders Shine in Literary Analysis Writing

Our 7th grade students are bringing their hard work to an impressive close as they put the finishing touches on their Literary Analysis Essays in ELA class. During this unit, students have engaged deeply with texts, developing thoughtful claims, gathering strong evidence, and crafting clear, well-structured arguments.

In these final stages, classrooms have been filled with focused energy as students revise, edit, and refine their writing. They are carefully strengthening introductions, sharpening their analysis, and ensuring their conclusions leave a lasting impact. Peer collaboration and teacher feedback have played a key role, helping students elevate their work and take pride in their progress.

This culminating task reflects not only students’ understanding of literature, but also their growth as critical thinkers and writers. We are proud of the dedication, perseverance, and attention to detail our 7th graders have demonstrated throughout the process.

Great work, writers—your voices and insights truly stand out! 📚✨

Exploring Nature’s Connections! 🌿🔍

Our 8th grade scientists have been hard at work diving into the fascinating world of ecosystems, exploring the many ways organisms interact and depend on one another! Through engaging lessons and collaborative activities, students investigated relationships such as mutualism and parasitism—uncovering how each plays a vital role in maintaining balance in nature.

Working together in small groups, students analyzed real-world examples, shared insights, and even created their own scenarios to demonstrate these complex interactions. The classroom buzzed with curiosity and teamwork as students connected scientific concepts to the natural world around them.

We’re so proud of our 8th graders for their thoughtful discussions, collaborative spirit, and growing understanding of how interconnected life truly is. The future of science is bright! 🌎✨

🎨 6th Grade Takes on the Met! 🏙️

Our 6th graders recently embarked on an unforgettable field trip to the iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City—and what an inspiring day it was! Students explored world-renowned collections spanning ancient civilizations, European masterpieces, and modern works, bringing their classroom learning to life in a truly immersive way.

From examining intricate artifacts to discussing famous works of art, our students demonstrated curiosity, creativity, and thoughtful engagement throughout the visit. The experience not only deepened their appreciation for art and history, but also sparked meaningful conversations and connections that will carry back into the classroom.

A big thank you to our teachers and chaperones for making this enriching opportunity possible. Way to go, 6th grade! 👏🎨

LMS Activities Spotlight – Discover the Fun Beyond the Bell 🎉✨

Stitching Up Something New: Knitting Club Tries Punch Needling! 🧶✨

Our Knitting Club, under the direction of club advisor, Mrs. Scrivani, recently stitched together an unforgettable experience on their latest field trip, where they had the chance to learn and try the art of punch needling! Students stepped outside their usual knitting routines to explore this unique fiber art technique, using special tools and colorful yarn to create textured, eye-catching designs.

With curiosity and creativity on full display, our club members embraced the challenge, quickly picking up new skills and supporting one another along the way. The room was buzzing with excitement as students watched their projects come to life—loop by loop!

🏐 Serving Up School Spirit: NJHS Volleyball Tournament a Smash Hit! 🏐

Our school was buzzing with energy as the National Junior Honor Society proudly sponsored and facilitated an exciting Volleyball Tournament that brought students together for an afternoon of fun, teamwork, and friendly competition!

With 8 student teams registered to participate, the gym quickly transformed into a lively arena filled with cheers, high-fives, and impressive rallies. Each team brought their A-game, showcasing not only their athletic skills but also outstanding sportsmanship and school spirit.

A huge shoutout to our NJHS members for their leadership and organization in making this event such a success—from coordinating teams and schedules to keeping the games running smoothly. Their dedication created a memorable experience for all involved.

Events like these highlight the power of student leadership and the joy of coming together as a school community. We’re already looking forward to the next tournament! 🎉

🌎🦎 Earth Day Expo Brings Learning to Life! 🕷️🌿

Our recent Earth Day Expo was an exciting celebration of environmental awareness, curiosity, and discovery! Students had the unique opportunity to learn directly from experts in the field, gaining valuable insights into ecosystems, conservation, and the important roles that animals play in our world.

One of the highlights of the day was the chance for students to get hands-on with a variety of arachnid and reptile species! From observing fascinating behaviors up close to even safely interacting with some of these incredible creatures, students were fully engaged and eager to learn more.

The LMS Environmental Club, co-advised by Mrs. Stephanie Rivera and Mrs. Christine Alia, led the planning and coordination of this annual event from September through April, including organizing the expert presentations and student experiences. Special thanks to all the members of our Environmental Club for their hard work and dedication!

This unforgettable experience sparked curiosity, inspired respect for the natural world, and brought our Earth Day celebration to life in the most memorable way. We are so proud of our students for their enthusiasm and thoughtful participation! 🌍✨
